Rehabilitation for Dizziness, Vertigo and Balance (Vestibular Rehabilitation)

Dizziness is one of the commonest reasons people visit their GP. There are many pathologies that result in people experiencing dizziness, vertigo or a sense of being off balance. Balance is maintained by our visual, sensory and inner ear vestibular systems working together. If one of these systems is not working optimally then we tend to lose our balance and experience vertigo or dizziness.

Vestibular rehab aims too reduce the sensation of dizziness and improve balance. A full assessment is completed to establish the cause of the symptoms, then a range of treatment/management strategies are suggested. These include balance retraining, education and relaxation technique. As well as exercises to encourage adaptation in the Vestibular system.

Conditions that benefit from Vestibular rehab include Benign Positional Paroxysmal Vertigo (BPPV), Vestibular Neuritis, Vestibular Hypofunction, Falls, Whiplash Associated Dizziness, Meniere’s disease, Migraines Related Dizziness, Postural Phobic Vertigo.
